Prerequisite: JAPN 213/251 or Interview with the instructor

Why study Business Japanese?

Many Japanese companies are seeking to globalize by hiring people from various cultural backgrounds, who may serve as bridges between Japan and the rest of the world. Business Japanese courses prepare you to function effectively in a Japanese work environment by focusing both on practical language skills and on relevant cultural information. It should be particularly useful for students who intend to participate in an internship program in Japan or whose future career may require the ability to communicate smoothly and effectively in Japanese.

The Program

Japanese for Professional Life I:   JAPN 314 (Term I, 3 credits)

• Hands-on Business Language (Polite expressions, business vocabulary, phone conversation, etc.)

• Job hunting methods (how to prepare a resume, take job interviews, etc.)

• Japanese employment system

• Japanese business manners and culture

 

Japanese for Professional Life II:  JAPN 315 (Term II, 3 credits)

• Hands on Business Language (negotiation, sales, conducting a meeting, etc.)

• How to become a “Global Citizen” (グローバル人材)

• Critically analyzing current social issues

• Current economic issues in Japan and the world
